I feel like I'm one of the few people here enjoying the weather. All I hear from everyone else are complaints about how cold it's getting, how winter is coming too soon, etc. What is so wrong with cold weather? I've never understood people who like the heat.

While winter is my favorite season, I actually really do like autumn, especially mid- to late autumn. Why? Because that's when the weather starts getting colder, when Mother Nature starts warning people that winter is coming soon. It's when people have to start putting away the summer t-shirts and shorts and start getting out the winter sweaters. It's the start of the best time of the year.

It's a shame no one else seems to enjoy the cold weather. I don't think I've heard anyone say anything good about the weather today. <s>Though when it comes to people who loves sports, I guess I can't blame them for not liking winter if their favorite sports are all non-winter outdoors sports.</s>

The server room is finally getting new ventilation. Not to sound bitter, but I'd say it's about time. That room is horrendously hot (not to mention it always sounds like airplanes are taking off in there), and I always worry a bit that something will overheat. With new ventilation, hopefully we won't have to worry about that <s>not that I'm not counting on nothing going wrong, what with the way things happen around here</s>.

We get over one obstacle only to run smack into another....

So I walk out of the elevator this morning...and the hallway is pitch-black. I open the door to the Tech Support office...and the room is pitch-black. Which can mean only one thing--a power outage.

While not having power is a huge inconvenience, for most jobs it is probably only a temporary hindrance, and one can find things to do that do not involve technology. But when your job is to do nothing but work with computers, there is little you can do when you're unable to use your only tool.

At least the electrical malfunction is being worked on. Now if only these lights would stop blinking...

The network should be working, by the way. The server room has had its power restored.

Those thunderstorms a couple of nights ago were a mess: Not only did one of the trees outside the employee lounge get struck by lightning (it was replaced overnight, it seems, but unfortunately, its replacement is smaller, so it doesn't prevent the sun from warming up the lounge), but so did one of the trees in my neighbor's back yard. The crack was so loud that it must have awakened at least half the neighborhood, and nearly gave Granny a heart attack (so she claims). I left for work this morning to the sound of chain saws slicing wood. (I think that's what woke me up, too.)

I can't wait for winter to return....

You'd think adults wouldn't need someone else to tell them that playing the telephone game is a bad idea, but apparently that song "High School Never Ends" has some truth to it.

One rumor leads to another...and when there are no new rumors to spread around, people seem to amplify what's already there. Rumors about Yamamoto-sama's health are one thing, but how did those rumors lead to people fretting over the general health of company employees? <s>Really, can't people around here just mind their own business and get on with their work? Adults.</s>

Granny insisted that I pass this along: She said it was a pleasure to meet you, and that you appear to be a "fine young woman" (exact quote). She hopes that you will "stop by" again soon, and she would like to hear you play the guitar sometime.

She also said that she hopes your father didn't give you too hard a time about going over to a boy's house.

Well, the heat seems to be taking a bit of a break the past couple days--the temperature outside is actually bearable (although still too hot for my personal comfort). But at the very least, I can walk outside without having the strong, constant desire to dunk myself in the nearest body of water.

You interested in coming over this weekend, or next weekend? You invited me over to your place, so it's only fair that I return the favor ...or so the old woman says. (I think she is just looking for an excuse to cook for someone besides me.)
It's days like these that make me glad that my internship does not require me to step outside during work hours (and also makes me glad that I don't work in the Archives & Research Building and have to step outside in order to get lunch). However, it's days like these that almost make me regret working a job that requires me to be surrounded by heat-generating computers all day long. The Tech Support office is HOT! We have the A/C on and a couple of fans blowing, which do help with the heat, but it's still hotter in here than in other offices.

The heat is the only thing I'm complaining about, though. I do like this job <s>and it could be much worse than it is</s>.

I got a phone call from the orphanage last night, thanking me and Granny for inviting some of the kids (the older ones) to the festival last Friday (which, by some miracle, managed to not get rained out--Granny was thrilled). Makes the trouble of having to watch a bunch of kids a little more worth it.

Now if only this heat would go away. <s>I'm thinking of moving someplace cold, like Siberia, after college.</s>

Granny is still insisting that I "tag along" to her club's festival and BBQ this evening, even though the weather forecast is promising rain. And now she wants me to invite Hinamori to come along, too. "I haven't seen Momo-chan in months!" is what she said. <s>I don't know if I can drag Hinamori away from her precious "Aizen-sama" long enough to attend a BBQ. She probably plans on spending the weekend doing extra work for him....</s> I guess for Granny's sake I hope it doesn't rain out the event this evening.

At least today isn't as hot as it was yesterday.

If one more reporter comes up to me and asks me about the rumors going around SSI about our company hiring mafia, I'm going to lose my temper. I'm sick and tired of having to use my old <s>and untrue</s> excuse of "interns aren't privy to company gossip." It's getting bothersome.

Hey, Karin, do I still need to bring boxing gloves and a helmet tomorrow?

This heat is ridiculous! It should against mother nature's laws for it to get this hot anywhere on the planet. If it weren't against company dress code, I swear, I'd be tempted to go around shirtless and in shorts. Computers generate a lot of heat, you know - our office isn't exactly cool, even with the A/C on. Tomorrow, I'm bringing a fan.

One of the clubs to which Granny belongs (I think it's the gardening club) is hosting a festival of sorts tomorrow evening, with mini rides for little kids, a barbeque, and a fireworks display after sundown. Granny insists that I go with her, even though I told her I'd much rather stay indoors, especially if tomorrow is going to be as hot as today is.

It's been awhile, hasn't it...?

Things have been running pretty smoothly around here for the past few months. <s>Knock on wood.</s> A few months ago, SSI bought Vizard, Inc., and some of their employees joined our staff last month. There wasn't enough space for them to have their own separate offices, so most of them have been interspersed among the rest of us. (A woman who has a habit of reading erotic manga was added to the receptionists. She is almost as bad as Matsumoto. <s>Only less busty.</s>)

One of the Vizard employees joined us in Tech Support--Ushouda Hachigen-san. His appearance reminds me of one of those American hippies (I have never seen any corporate worker with his hair dyed pink), but he knows more about firewalls and computer protection than Ishida-san and I combined. Given the kinds of things that tend to happen around here, I guess it's a good thing he joined us.

Now if only the weather weren't so damn hot, things would be just about perfect - which is really unusual for around here. But the weather... The only person I know who has an excuse for liking this kind of weather is Daiguren (who likes to sun herself in the windowsill). Yeesh...

It snowed over a foot this weekend. Daiguren isn't too thrilled - when I opened the window, she poked her head out of her cage (which is next to the window) and gave me a look that was probably the reptile equivalent of a glare. Sometimes I feel sorry for her. To be unable to handle cold weather because of the way mother nature built you - I can't even begin to imagine it.

SSI recently bought Vaizard, Inc., and word has it that we will be getting new employees soon.

Well, now, this is my kind of weather! Granny claims she is going to blame me for this weather - "You wished for a snowstorm, didn't you?" - but that's perfectly fine with me.

The elevators have been fixed, so people no longer have a reason to stand at the bottom of the staircase and moan about having to climb two, three, or four flights of stairs. And secretaries no longer have a reason to get stuck in the elevator with a client.

The lawsuit with Hueco Mundo has been tipped in our favor - a prototype of the Jigokuchou phone was found in the Research lab, which pretty much proves that we came up with the design first.

I just realized that three good things happened in a single day. I think this is a new record for SSI. <s>Actually, it's more like a miracle.</s>

Really, can't the media find something better to do than bury their noses in corporate lawsuits? <s>I thought this is what celebrity scandals were for.</s> Granny even asked me about it last night, and I didn't even think she followed business-related news stories.

The elevator is still broken, and even worse, one of Ukitake-san's secretaries got stuck in one...and is still stuck in it, apparently.

Nothing can sail smoothly for very long around here, can it? Just last week there were those arrest rumors, but then that bad news was counterbalanced with the good news that our latest product is selling really well. (If there's one bad thing about being an intern, it's that I don't benefit from the salary raise that paid employees have been promised. Ah, well...) But now supposedly Hueco Mundo is suing SSI because they claim we copied their idea. To put icing on the cake, the elevators in the main building are broken...AGAIN.

I would love for there to be at least two weeks in which nothing bad happens. No lawsuits, no mechanical or technical problems, no rumors of employees being sent to jail - none of that crap. It would be an event worth noting in SSI's history.

If I have hear one more person - or rather, a certain person - tease me about hanging out at the mall with Kurosaki, I think I may just lose my temper. Is there something wrong with hanging out with a friend? Last time I checked, malls were hot spots for teenagers to hang out.

Speaking of the mall... We bumped into Inoue-san outside of the ice cream parlor (where we went to "recover" from that piece of trash that tried to pass for a movie), and she and Kurosaki somehow convinced me to join them for their weekend movie nights. Inoue-san, what movie are you watching this weekend?

Hinamori, obaasan's been asking about you. She says she hasn't seen you in awhile and that you should drop by and visit sometime. She'd be more than happy to treat you to dinner.
First day back to work after the winter holidays. Baasan always says that the New Year is a time to turn over a new leaf, a time to reflect upon and learn from the mistakes one made during the past year. It's not a saying you hear much from the younger generation; sometimes I wonder how many people these days believe that.

The temperature is below freezing (baasan nearly had a heart attack when I tried to walk out of the house this morning without a hat on) and the ground is covered in at least a foot of snow - two or three feet in some places - but life could not be any better right now. As far as I'm concerned, the longer winter lasts, the better life is. And it's not just because my birthday is in the dead middle of winter.

(Really, I don't understand people who love the heat of summer. Who the heck can love weather that makes you sweat as soon as you step out your front door? The only summer-lover I can understand is Daiguren, and that's because she's a cold-blooded reptile.)

Well, I found my keyboard (at least, I'm pretty sure this is my keyboard), but I'm still carrying my laptop around, just in case the "prankster" decides to go on another keyboard-snatching spree. (Some adults really need to grow up.)

On another note, there's a party this Friday. Something to look forward to, as long as the prankster doesn't pull another one of his blasted tricks.

So I get into work this morning, thinking that all the recent "pranks" couldn't get any worse, when I walk into our office and Ishida-san announces that our keyboards have gone missing. Yes, missing. He said he had found one for me, but it was an old thing that he had found in the restroom. Which would explain why it's yellowed and smells like a century's worth of mildew.

Needless to say, I'm pissed.

I'm considering bringing my laptop tomorrow, and keeping it with me at all times - even if I step out of the office only for a few minutes. I'm really not looking forward to having to use that old mildewed excuse for a keyboard again.

Things can just never stay peaceful around here for very long, can they? As soon as the fog lifts, it falls again.

I really need to thank the ***hole who decided to spend the weekend going through our database and copying information. And I would really like to know how said ***hole managed to hack into a database that is supposed to be secure; no one is supposed to be able to break into it <s>with the exception of Tech Support and I suspect Research and Development</s>. What the hell?!

If that weren't bad enough, thanks to some other ***hole (or maybe the same one), files are missing. Important files! Not even Yachiru would go this far with one of her pranks!

I think the panic meter has just peaked, and something is about to explode from all the pressure.

If the atmosphere around here was odd and tense yesterday, what with Yamamoto-sama's unexplained absence... Well, it's nothing compared to today, with word going around that Yamamoto-sama was hospitalized due to a heart attack. I have yet to come across a single person who does not have worry wrinkles on his or her forehead. (I probably even have a few worry wrinkles, not that I've looked in a mirror or anything.)

<s>Even Ichimaru-san's smile looked less... well, less like he was enjoying life than it usually does. I think that surprised me most of all...</s>

Since when is the term "Open House" synonymous with "wander around wherever you want?" I thought open houses were more restricted, that visitors weren't allowed to just go wherever they wanted. So far, Ishida-san and I have been interrupted at least half a dozen times by people who seem to think that opening closed office doors (without knocking at that) is perfectly okay. If it weren't for the fact that a lot of these people are important customers, I probably would have lost my temper with most of them <s>(especially that idiot who seemed to think it was out duty to show him around, even though we're not tour guides and we were both obviously busy)</s>.

I can't wait until this day is over... and to think it's only 11:30 in the morning.

It seems the telephone game doesn't lose popularity as one gets older. It just loses the innocence of school children in the park playing it. Really, what the hell is wrong with adults? Rumours about who is dating whom are one thing; I expected to hear some of those when I started working here. But rumours about mail clerks being murderers and secretaries getting arrested for embezzlement or hit-and-runs - that's just going too far. I don't know Kurosaki-san, Ise-san, or Abarai-san very well, but I know they don't deserve this. Not even Matsumoto-san deserves this.

I feel like I'm living a soap opera, or one of those disgustingly sappy anime about good girls and bad boys, where the characters don't know how to communicate, rumours spread like wildfire, and everyone misunderstands everyone else.

Soap opera scenarios belong in soap operas. Anime scenarios belong in anime. They don't belong in real life.

<s>The only rumour that is relatively believable is Matsumoto-san getting arrested for indecent behaviour. Though I think she is far more likely to be arrested for indecent exposure than indecent behaviour.</s>

On another note... This morning, I heard a couple of employees near the snack machine talking about a possible culprit who started these rumours. I won't give any names, but I will say that I will not be surprised if this latest rumour turns out to be fact...
